Hello there — I'm Joshua, as you may have gathered. I intend for this blog to be a record of my musings and ramblings. It's mostly for my own personal catharsis (i.e. my intended audience is myself in middle and old age), but feel free to look around. Of course, the opinions and thoughts are mine and don't necessarily reflect those of any firm at which I may or may not work, nor the people with whom I associate.
My "official" life is located in the other parts of this website, but I'd like to think that I'm still just someone who wants to learn a bit more about the world. Despite reallocating my mental resources to math and machine learning for certain unimportant reasons, I've always loved theoretical physics the most. I'd like to think that maybe, in a different life, I'd make a not-so-shabby academic in cosmology or relativity 🙃.
A little bit about my tastes:
- Literature: Isaac Asimov's Foundation and 刘慈欣's Three Body Problem
- Genres: history, philosophy, scifi, and fantasy (sometimes romance? but not of the YA variety)
- Cinema: Interstellar, Star Wars, and The Truman Show
- Recording: Zimerman's interpretation of the Larghetto from Chopin Piano Concerto 1
- Food: buffet-style hotpot with friends (or, absent that, whatever's nearby, fast, and cheap)
- Hobbies: debate, ping pong, Figgie, poker, and apparently even blogging now
Lastly — I really love music. One of my most memorable experiences has been to see Hamilton at Broadway, and I hope to visit more often (maybe once I escape the destitute life of a college student). I'm also lucky to have heard Trifonov's Prokofiev live with the SF Philharmonic, and my life goals include witnessing one of Krystian Zimerman's iconic performances.
Thus concludes the ramble. On that note, goodbye.
Joshua
(FWIW: lintropic is a synthesis of lin and entropic. Given how chaotic my life has become, it seems rather fitting.)
